The History of QIMSA
Since 2003 the Quantico Injured Military Sportsmen’s Association (QIMSA) stands as an advocate of America’s wounded servicemen and women. QIMSA provides all-encompassing, expense-free outdoor experiences to wounded warriors from all services, regardless of injury or hunting and fishing background. Giving back to those who sacrifice for our nation and encouraging others to do the same has become QIMSA’s quest and what it hopes will endure as a legacy of service to others. QIMSA is a federally-approved, non-profit, 501(c)(3), volunteer program operated on Marine Corps Base, Quantico, Virginia. The program provides combat-injured military heroes undergoing treatment at the three local military hospitals: Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Fort Belvoir Community Hospital and H.H McGuire (McGuire) Veterans Affairs (VA) Hospital, the opportunity to realize their hunting and fishing potential, regardless of injury, in the company of fellow veterans and sportsmen.
QIMSA organizes donated catered meals, a myriad of hunting equipment to include weapons, assists wounded warriors and family members with transportation support, and coordinates guest appearances by high-profile politicians, senior military members and celebrities to show the injured service members that their sacrifices, service, and dedication to their country have not gone unnoticed or unappreciated.
While we can never do enough to show our gratitude to our nation’s wounded warriors, QIMSA always does a little more by conducting over 840 individual hunts and providing over 3300 catered meals to our country’s wounded heroes. With the great generosity and support of the American people and corporate sponsors this nonprofit group has provided assistance to more than 900 wounded heroes and their families through a volunteer support network of numerous volunteers who have logged thousands of volunteer hours.
In recognition of their work on behalf of our wounded heroes QIMSA has been the subject of national attention through the profiles aired on outdoor sports network shows like North American Whitetail and Primos.
From their modest beginnings, QIMSA has quietly and tenaciously attacked a gap in the military’s ability to assist the wounded and their families in sports and outdoor recreation. QIMSA epitomizes the Marine Corps values of duty, honor, courage, loyalty, commitment and integrity. QIMSA’s selfless dedication, extraordinary generosity, tremendous contributions, and service in support of our wounded heroes.
